Screening of Documentary Eva Hesse

Eva Hess. Photo by Barbara Brown, circa 1963. "EVA HESSE". A film by Marcie Begleiter. A Zeitgeist Films release.

Join us at 6:00 pm on Friday, August 12, for a screening of EVA HESSE (108 minutes; Zeitgeist Films), a documentary celebrating the American postwar artist who pioneered sculpture using latex, fiberglass, and plastics, and whose exploration of these mediums helped establish the movement that followed minimalism.

The feature length documentary makes use of photographs, her myriad journal entries, correspondence with friends, and their recollections of her—capturing the essence of her work. It also reveals Hesse’s psychic struggles as she established herself in the 1960s New York art world as a critically recognized artist during a period dominated by male pop artists and minimalists.
