Restricted gifts are those which are specified by the donor to be used for a particular purpose or program including acquisitions, exhibitions, education or art conservation.

Acquisitions

The Collection defines the unique identity and mission of The Parrish Art Museum which is the collection, exhibition and interpretation of American art, with particular emphasis on the unusually rich art produced on the East End of Long Island. The Museum boasts an extensive collection of William Merritt Chase and Fairfield Porter paintings, and an impressive collection of art from the 19th through 21st centuries including works by Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, Willem de Kooning, Roy Lichtenstein, Chuck Close Elizabeth Peyton and Tony Oursler. Contributions to Acquisitions help maintain the strength of the collection and enable the museum to continue adding works of the highest caliber to its collection.

Exhibitions

Exhibitions are the means to make outstanding works of art accessible to the public, increase the understanding and enjoyment of art, and attract diverse audiences. Exhibitions are essential for Museum’s continued vitality and growth as a cultural institution.

Education

School Programs: The Parrish’s work in the schools has been among its most successful and innovative endeavors, and one of the most important. When the Museum was founded by Samuel Longstreth Parrish in 1898, his vision of its ultimate purpose was to educate through art. The Parrish’s commitment to this mission has been unwavering for over a century, and our staff now serves more than 10,000 school children each year.

Children and Family Programs: These programs allow the Museum to respond to the community in direct ways including after-school and vacation activities, art camp, family festivals, Sunday Fun Days and interactive performances.

Public Programs: Adult programs such as lectures, films, concerts, workshops and gallery talks provide added depth, detail and understanding to exhibitions and to the Museum’s mission.

Conservation

A museum’s curatorial function – caring for the art in its collection – is fundamental to its mission. Conservation of art is essential to this purpose and is a continuing process.

It embraces all areas of the collection, including paintings, works on paper, sculpture and archival material.
